The sky was no longer blue. It had not been for decades. Sunlight used to illuminate an empty sky, but now people lived beneath a continuous combination of dust and smoke, signifying Earth's accelerating decline. Unpredictable thick clouds now carried dual forces between destruction and possible rebirth. From above, the heavy clouds started serving as the sole surviving habitat for everything alive.

Standing on the fissured ground, Oblivia experienced the mighty desert wind that swept through the remains of a previously vital environment. The ground under her feet had become dust due to the lack of life support available for the soil. Local tales had foretold that the land would break its promise to them, and thus, its hope had vanished. The prophecies became reality. Oblivia's polluted atmosphere had watched the earth deteriorate, yet the clouds started revealing signs of a potential upcoming era that dangled between doom and rescue.

Desperation led to the creation of Cloud Agriculture, despite its conceptual origins occurring in the skies above the earth. The spores used for growing crops came directly from clouds after their careful collection and maintenance. The elaborate procedure involved great danger yet represented the lone means to keep the remaining inhabitants alive. Fletcher (2019) demonstrates that new agricultural technologies are needed to accommodate an increasingly harsh environment, so Cloud Agriculture emerged as a solution. The scientists collected spores from atmospheric layers, which developed into a unique habitat because of pollution and the effects of acid rain. Scientists developed floating platforms used as sanctuaries to cultivate the spores in aloft conditions above the contaminant-laden atmosphere.

The advanced techniques devised by Sky-Tenders protected their growing crops from risking poisoning of plant materials. The bio-dome chambers isolated the spores using filters to eliminate dangerous toxins in the first phase. The filtration system is based on natural processes operated within these chambers through organic compounds for air purification near the crops. The spores received their nurturing through controlled nutrient-rich air, which protected them from hazardous pollutants that had transformed the earth into a dangerous environment. These plants obtain their nutrients through micro-particles suspended nutrients from polluted clouds. The scientists made numerous attempts to discover this method, during which they perfected a procedure for growing biological entities.

During her childhood, Oblivia had listened to quiet discussions about the Sky Tenders. Since childhood, she had taken in the sacred stories about the flying sanctuaries and the cloud-based miracles shown by the Sky-Tenders. The urgent situation compelled her to witness things for herself. There was no other choice. All resources on that land had run out, and the territory became lifeless. The earth's ecosystems exceeded their maximum capacity years ago, based on Steffen and Rockström's (2018) analysis. The former agricultural methods proved ineffective because environmental damage alongside famines made certain areas too dangerous for human habitation. Food scarcity had become dire, so people believed the Sky-Tenders possessed mysterious crops that could give them hope for survival.

The start of her mission included only the age-old tales transmitted from past generations. A strong wind blew through abandoned city ruins while she proceeded to witness only the flowing remnants of the deceased world. A refreshing sweetness touched the foul-smelling heavy air in what seemed to be a signal of something fresh emerging from the dying remains of the world. This living thing lived through the total demise of all other existence.

She tracked the diminishing trail of wind that gradually strengthened until it brought her to a shifting cloud formation in the sky. It was not a storm. The pulsating masses acted like living cells that unrolled themselves into patterns. At the same time, they swayed before her as if they wanted her to move forward. Her heart quickened. The essence of Cloud Agriculture revealed itself before me.

The Sky-Tenders operated flying sanctuaries that circled in midair through structures beyond the understanding of ground-dwelling people. The platforms used by the Sky-Tenders rested on the moving clouds while built from materials that radiated light and glittered under toxic sunlight. The floating homes designed by Sky-Tenders had appeared before in images to her. Still, real-life observation below her revealed an unsettling atmosphere alongside the unnatural hovering in the airspace.

The Sky-Tenders welcomed Oblivia when she reached the base of the floating island system. They remained, unlike all other human beings Obsidia had ever encountered, due to their skin, which sparkled like passing clouds, while their eyes showed dark holes that mirrored the storm nearby. Their appearance created discomfort, and their statements consisted of perplexing enigmas and serene reassurances.

"We have not saved the earth," one Sky-Tender said, their voice distant and smooth, like the wind. "We have transformed it. Above the earth lives a substance whose existence remains outside its realm. Below the poisoned earth, you will discover pureness upstairs.

As Oblivia walked forward, the ground underneath her feet morphed continuously as if the earth were facing continuous destruction. "And what of us? What of the people below?"

"The earth cannot heal," the Sky-Tender replied, their gaze turned to the horizon where the land met the sky. "But the sky can be nurtured. The heavens above provide conditions for fresh existence to emerge. Evolution represents the primary purpose rather than a complete redemption of the world.

Oblivia understood the confusing terms that were spoken. According to Chakraborty and Lenton (2021), the essential survival strategy for human beings involves adapting to environmental changes through innovative practices like Cloud Agriculture. It proved that the Sky-Tenders never held the saving power that previous generations believed they possessed. They came to adjust themselves to the modified earth rather than to bring back its previous state. Their actions fell short of restoring a lost world because they entered into a new domain that emerged between the terrestrial and atmospheric spheres and mortality and existence.

Plants, as she recognized them, did not exist in such cloud-tamed fields. The crop fungi survived on the acidic rainwater that poisoned the planet below. According to Hughes (2020), toxic air elements would become the foundation of new agricultural technologies, enabling farming in areas where conventional methods were ineffective. The objects in the clouds exceeded standard plant classifications. These aerial growths survived in an environment that denied all support to living things. The artificial life forms did not search for food from the ground because they extracted nourishment directly from atmospheric pollution. The aerial plants survived harsh conditions to become new possibilities for survival, even if only the distant cloudmen might obtain them.

Oblivia lifted her eyes to observe the unusual growing plants gently moving with the wind currents. At this moment, she grasped the unique power that the Sky-Tenders had bestowed upon themselves. It was not salvation. It was an adaptation. They did not restore earthly health, yet they developed ways to extract resources from this pollution, which turned planetary annihilation into eco-creational beginnings.

"Why?" Her voice was so soft that it barely touched the air when Oblivia spoke her question. "Why did you turn to the sky? Why not save the earth?"

The Sky-Tender resumed his stare at the scorched horizon that marks the earth's remaining forests. "The earth is beyond saving. But the sky still holds life. We look at environmental ruination differently than you do because we use such collapses as an essential part of creation.

A continuous wind circled them as the clouds created a cyclonic motion that showed no sign of becoming a storm. Oblivia remained frozen in place while the earth showed its failure to her, and the sky offered an insecure path ahead. The heavy atmosphere buzzed with vibrations from the sky's peculiar crops. At the same time, the land around them moved rhythmically through its changing phases. The Sky-Tender slid away from Oblivia by taking a silent backward step until he vanished in the cloudy mist of the air.

The platform started moving away from Oblivia without apparent cause, as if possessing its own will. All observable traces of the Sky-Tenders disappeared into the air as their bodies transformed into magic lights that scattered through the deep fog. Once more, she tried to step forward, but the ground beneath her turned into a soft substance that she had previously never experienced. Her feet sank into the platform, which had become unstable because of her weight. The reality she had recognized wholly disappeared while the entire world started distorting itself in a way that left no possibility of retracing what she remembered. A voice emerged from the depths of fog which sounded both far away yet close by when it spoke:

"Do you understand now, Oblivia? Everything on Earth became tainted, so the Earth itself was not the only thing poisoned that day.

The atmosphere became heavily dense as Oblivia froze completely. Thick, dark clouds hung overhead in a way that signalled the impending arrival of night. The surrounding quietness changed everything—the reality had started to distort. She could not identify the source of her certainty. Still, she trusted in the depths of her spirit that the Sky-Tenders had concealed something sinister beneath their surface. Oblivia discovered concealed truths in the clouds but was not ready to comprehend them.
